Welcome

Buxton Tennis Club was established in 1853 and was the venue for the first All-England Lawn Tennis Championship! The rights to the name were later acquired by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) for use at Wimbledon.
What a claim to fame!!
The 3 all-weather courts are set in a beautiful location alongside the cricket ground and bowling green with open views to the south-East and are within easy walking distance of Buxton Town Centre.
To comment on any aspect of the club or our plans, please see the details given in 'News and Events'
RECENT NEWS:
14:15 SUNDAY Well, only 1 hardy soul turned up, the rain coming down harder than ever! We'll rearrange for another time. In the meantime, with it being Bank Holiday Monday tomorrow, let's have a good club session tomorrow evening - the forecast is better, light rain dying out by the afternoon - so let's hope it means that.
UPDATE: 13:30 SUNDAY Its definitely looking awful and seems like there will be little prospect of playing unless wearing a wet suit. Even if it stops at 2pm, its quite capable of pouring again soon afterwards and as this was planned as a fun competition, this doesn't look much fun. So unless conditions drastically improve in the next 30 minutes, we will rearrange for another time. I will go to the courts to see if anyone turns up but at the moment I am planning to postpone the competition and rearrange. Ian
UPDATE: SUNDAY MORNING 10AM - the weather is not looking too kind to us! If people turn up wanting to play, then indeed the fun competition will go ahead, if not, then we'll have to do it another time. See who turns up!
There will be a start the month (indeed, 'Start the Season'!) tournament on Sunday 4th May at 2pm. Just turn up and be paired off. Prizes for the most successful couples!. Round-robin, best of 4 games, handicapped scoring system to ensure everyone has an equal chance.
We entered a boy's U15 team into the Sheffield and District League but only later was a decision made that the matches in that league would be played at 10am on Sunday mornings. A large majority of our team had commitments, religious and other, at that time and the league refused to allow us to negotiate alternative times with other teams. Consequently we have withdrawn the team from that league. Coaching for that team continues as normal and friendly matches with other teams will be arranged.

There is a junior boys team starting, details of coaching and matches on the 'juniors' page. Also we are running again the junior 'turn up and play' supervised sessions on Thursday evenings, 4-5pm. Cost will be £1 per session like last year but in addition we require each participant to be a junior member of the club. (Junior membership is not expensive for the year, or even free if part of a family membership).
Details of men's matches may be found on the 'Team News' page
The newletter also contains information on 'British Tennis' - a new initiative by the LTA. All members of affiliated clubs, like Buxton Tennis Club may apply for FREE membership for 2008 but you must apply before December 31st 2007. May we strongly encourage you to join - membership will have ramifications on eligibility for Wimbledon draw tickets for example. Please go the the LTA website on www.LTA.org.uk and follow signs to 'Membership of British Tennis' or follow the link here.
6th October. The council found that it had 50 leylandii trees surplus to its requirements and asked for bids, proceeds to the Mayor's charity. We were successful in bidding and got them at an excellent price. These have now been planted between the courts and the cricket pitch to act as a wind break.
We have created a members' page where plans for future developments of our facilities may be viewed by members of the club. The members' page is still under construction so do please keep returning to see developments.
The committee has decided to change playing times slightly for club play and team match practice. Please see modified times on the 'Join Us' page.
