Buxton Tennis Club
Park Road, Buxton

Welcome

Buxton Tennis Club is part of the Buxton Cricket, Bowls and Tennis club and the site on Park Road was first established by the Cricket Club in 1853.  Major tennis tournaments were held in Buxton from 1883 and it was the venue for the All-England Ladies Doubles Tennis Championships! The competition continued under that name until 1951.

What a claim to fame!!

Much more about our history can be read in the link 'About Us' where there is now also a pdf version of 'White Lines, A Tennis Court Chronicle' written by Jek Jacob and Oliver Gomersal and reproduced by kind permission of Jek Jacob.  The sharp eyed amongst you who know the Buxton personnel may recognise a slightly more youthful Leo Barbero.  Its a fascinating history of tennis in Buxton and heartily recommended!

The 3 all-weather courts are set in a beautiful location alongside the cricket ground and bowling green with open views to the south-East and are within easy walking distance of Buxton Town Centre.

6th October. The council found that it had 50 leylandii trees surplus to its requirements and asked for bids, proceeds to the Mayor's charity.  We were successful in bidding and got them at an excellent price.  These have now been planted between the courts and the cricket pitch to act as a wind break.

We have created a members' page where plans for future developments of our facilities may be viewed by members of the club.  The members' page is still under construction so do please keep returning to see developments.

The committee has decided to change playing times slightly for club play and team match practice.  Please see modified times on the 'Join Us' page.
