New balls are put
out regularly for club and free play and
kept in the grey bucket in the pavilion. (Access via
a key code is given separately to members). If
members wish to use
their own tennis balls during free play then of course there is no
problem with
that. Club play will be played with the
balls provided by the club. These are generally new.
When playing at the
courts, please ensure tolerance and
common sense prevail and please follow the etiquette below for
different types
of play:
Club Play – Social
tennis
in a friendly atmosphere, all members welcome. These
are the main club sessions during which we hope that sufficient
numbers of people will turn up so that you can just turn up and be
relatively
sure of people to play against. Turning
up to club play implies that you are willing to play with/against
whichever
members turn up. Matches are usually
doubles unless there is a pair left over and a spare court.
Matches are the best of 8 games if
there are
others waiting or playing (unless a set of 6 games are won by one side
before
the 8 are played). If you are a
significantly better player than an opponent, please be tolerant and
helpful to
maintain a good spirit across the court. Fours to
play will be decided by drawing cards. Once the
fours are drawn, please just use
good sense in matching abilities for a competitive game. Juniors
who are of a sufficient standard to
play well against adults are also welcome.
Free Play – Matches may
be arranged beforehand with other members and played to their
conclusion
(unless there are many others waiting to play). There
is no obligation to mix with others who turn up to play unless
desired by all parties. Singles matches
may be arranged and played. Juniors may
make up fours or mixed with adults for competitive games.
Family Play – Turn up
and
play with other family or friends who are members. Time
for families, particularly with young
children who wish to come and play.
